MagPunk Privacy Policy
Our Core Principle
As MagPunk, we are not interested in who you are or how you use the app. MagPunk is not designed to collect your personal data or profile you. Almost all of the app’s basic reading, labeling and analysis operations occur directly and solely on your own device.
Data We Do Not Collect
Because MagPunk does not have a centralized server (backend) storing your app data, your data is not sent to our servers or backed up by us; the only exception is the optional feedback form described below, which runs only when you decide to send it. Additionally, due to the way the app operates, the following data is strictly never collected:
- There is no user account, membership, or login system; you are never asked for an ID, name, or email address.
- No telemetry or analytics code is used. Which content you read, how much time you spend, or your in-app behavior is not tracked, measured, or sent anywhere by us.
Data Stored on Your Device
The data generated while using the app is stored directly and only on your own device, in a local database. This user-controlled data includes:
- Your reading history, saved items, watched words, app settings, and source lists you add are kept on the device and never leave the device.
- You have full control over this data. At any time, you can completely clear or reset your local data from the app settings, or export it to your own device as a local file (backup).
- All notifications sent to you are also generated on your device (local notification); no centralized push notification server is used in the background.
Data Sent to Third Parties
Due to the nature of the internet, there are three transparent interactions directly between your device and third parties that are necessary for the app to fulfill its purpose:
- Fetching Content (RSS): To access content, MagPunk connects directly to the servers of the original publishers (e.g., BBC, NYT, etc.). During this connection, your device’s IP address and standard network request information may technically be seen by the respective publishers. This is entirely true for any standard web browser or standard RSS reader as well.
- Smart Discovery (Search on Web): Only with your permission, when you tap the search button—this optional feature is never automatic—only the “word you searched for” is transmitted directly from your device to the relevant search providers (Feedly, Google News, Reddit, etc.). During this process, your device ID, location, or account information is not sent. No MagPunk server acts as an intermediary, and none of these searches are recorded by MagPunk.
- Pro Subscription (Optional): The entire payment flow is handled by the store the app is distributed through (Google Play); your card and billing details go directly to Google, and MagPunk never sees or stores them at any stage. The app only asks Google Play whether “this device has an active purchase”; the answer never leaves your device, and no MagPunk server acts as an intermediary. As the seller, what reaches us is the order records and aggregate sales reports Google provides; these records cannot be linked to your in-app behavior, because the app produces no such data. If you never make a purchase, this interaction never occurs.
In all three cases, these third parties (publishers, search providers, and Google Play) process the requests they receive according to their own privacy policies; MagPunk has no control over these policies.
Feedback Form (Optional)
When you think a label in the app is wrong, you can report it to us. This is entirely optional and runs only when you press “Send”.
- What reaches us when you send: the title, source name, link and language of the item you reported; the item’s current labels; what you marked as “wrong” and “missing”; and your own note, if you wrote one.
- What does not reach us: your identity, location, device identifier, reading history, saved items and other settings. There is no account system to begin with.
- Nothing leaves your device before you send it. When the form page opens, the information travels in the part of the address after the “#” sign; that part is technically not transmitted to the server. The server sees the data only at the moment you press “Send”.
- These reports are stored so we can assess whether they can improve the classifier. No report is fed into training automatically; each is reviewed by hand first.
- We advise against writing personal information in the free-text field; we have no way of controlling what is written there.
No Ads and No Tracking
MagPunk’s core functions are free; an optional Pro subscription unlocks certain advanced features. No matter which tier you are on, ads are never shown anywhere in the app; third-party advertising or tracker software and SDKs are also strictly not used. The Pro subscription only offers additional features and does not alter privacy principles: no personal data is collected in the paid version either. Your subscription is validated directly with Google Play and the result stays on your device; no MagPunk server is involved in that check (see “Data Sent to Third Parties”).
Data Security
Since your personal data is not stored on cloud servers, it does not carry any risk of data breach or leakage. All your reading habits and analyses are hosted solely on your own device. To delete or reset your data, you simply need to uninstall the app from your device or clear the app data. You are in complete control.
Children’s Privacy and Age Limit
MagPunk is not designed directly for children’s use and does not knowingly collect any personal data from children under the age of 13. This app is designed for users aged 13 and over. If you reside in the European Union or Turkey, a higher age limit (for example, 16 or 18) may be required to use digital services according to applicable local laws.
Legal Notices
You can review the Terms of Use page for the app’s terms of service, general contract rules, and limits of liability, and the Content & Copyright page for publisher rights and takedown procedures. For the reliability and nature of automatically assigned labels, see the Automatic Classification page.
Changes to the Policy
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time to comply with changes in the app or legal requirements. The most current version is always the binding version.
